Countdown to Infinity War

Okay guys, my break from cheer continues today with a new topic MARVEL INFINITY WAR !!!!

For 10 years Marvel had reigned supreme in comic book movies. With success like the Avengers, Captain America and my personal favorite, Black Panther.

And coming up next month is long awaited Infinity War ! Fans have been waiting YEARS for this and I can’t wait to watch it .

GUN Control: No Debate.

I know this blog is usually about cheer and getting ready for competition and such, but today I’m going to talk about an issue that has been plaguing the nation. Gun control and gun violence.

A lot are divided on this issue, but I believe when it comes to keeping our kids and everyone in country safe there is no need for debate. Students all over the country are starting to get paranoid about going to school which they should be.

They’re scared about when the next shooting is going to be which they shouldn’t be. Congress and our President shouldn’t be afraid to make stricter regulations on guns .

It shouldn’t matter if your a Democrat or a Republican and your views on this situation. The choice to make our country safer and our children safe shouldn’t be up for debate.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH .

Road to Natty’s

My blog name is finally being upheld. That’s right Nationals (Natty’s) 2018 is officially 9 days away!

Since May of 2017 the Dunbar cheerleaders have been preparing for this exact time of the year. All the blood, sweat and many tears (literally) all lead up to winning 1st place and getting this white saten jackets.

For Dunbar cheer JV team there looking for their first ever national title . With this years talented team our chances of winning are pretty high . Wish them luck !!!!

Post Cheer Life

People usually wonder what happens when cheer season is over. Where do the girls go? What do they do?

Well, for one thing cheer is never over. The girls usually take the time  to go to tumbling to improve or work on some new skills for the next season. Dunbar hosts multiple cheer clinics to get new girls involved.

Some girls focus on school sense there is no more practice they take the time to study and catch up on some work. Others decide to get a job to keep busy and earn some extra cash.

The majority of the girls just relax. Cheer can be stressful and when you’ve been going at it for nine months at most you need these two and half months to rest , hang with friends , family etc.

So What Now?

Okay guys welcome back ! Last time I talked about our trip to nationals and what we expected to accomplish when we were down there and I can say is …. It was “different”.

By that I mean it was not what we expected at all. Our Varsity team finished in 7th place which was a shocker considering their perfect season in Kentucky.

JV finished their season coming in 2nd place and I can say it was amazing!!! They hit a near perfect routine but came up short in the end . So now that our season is over what now ? What is the future of Dunbar cheer after this nationals? I hope to regroup soon after the break and get ready for Nationals 2019.

You Have to Eat

Every athlete no matter what sport they play needs some kind of nutrition in order to eat. Football players, basketball players, and many others have a certain diet to maintain in order to be in the best shape to play their specific sport.

But for years now cheerleaders , gymnasts and even ballet dancer (Yes, ballet is a sport) there has been a stereotype put on those sports that they don’t eat or they eat less than normal. In reality, just like every other sport they have to eat!

They  get that notion that they don’t eat because some have the typical “skinny” bodies. But some have to realize that the sports they do burn A LOT of calories per practice and some of these sports practice everyday 300 something days of the year so yeah their bodies will tend to have a high matabalism than others.

The certain skills that they do require a lot of calories (the good kind) and nutrients . As a cheerleader before practice I have to eat something before due to all the calories I burn and afterwards I always eat something big to give my body it’s energy back since I burned it all at practice. Every athlete needs to eat and it’s okay to eat.

The Deadly Month: A Reflection

The deadly month is upon us guys. That’s right it’s the month before we leave for nationals in Orlando, Florida.

Now, I know I say every month of cheer is stressful but there is something about January that is HORRIBLE! When you have less then 3 weeks to make a new routine, add new stunts , change things around , cheer games , and keep our grades up yikes!

In January we showcased our routine almost every weekend so that meant no social life at all that month. We see each other more than most of our family and friends outside of cheer.

I don’t know how we do it every year but we always get through it .
